Gulab Jamun is a dessert which most of us love to eat. I am also a lover of gulab jamun and I was longing to have it. Here in Bangalore I tried it from different sweet shops but I was not satisfied with the taste, so I decided to give it a try at home :)To make perfect gulab jamun I did lot of research and finally I tried it today and it came out so nice, soft and mouth-watering. Hence I thought of sharing this gulab jamun recipe with you guys :) So lets see what you need for this recipe:

(For gulab jamun)

  • Mawa/ Khoya                               1/2 cup
  • Maida                                             1/4 cup
  • Baking powder                              1/4 tsp
  • Oil/ ghee                                       for frying

(for sugar syrup)

  • Sugar                                            1 cup
  • Water                                            1 cup
  • Cardamom powder                      1/4 tsp

  • Take mawa in a bowl and mash it properly so that it will not have any lumps or you can grate it.
  • After mashing it add maida and baking powder into it and knead it well.
  • With the help of little water make a soft dough I used 2 tbsp of water.
  • Knead this dough for at least 5 min to make it soft. If you do this step correct your balls will not tear during frying.
  • Now make small balls from the dough. I made 12 balls.
  • Try to keep the size of ball small coz it ll increase while frying and also when it is dipped in sugar syrup.
  • Now take oil in one pan and heat it on medium flame.
  • Meanwhile take another pan put sugar, water and cardamom powder to make sugar syrup. Bring it to boil on high flame and then to medium flame for 10 min. We need to make sugar syrup of 1 string consistency.
  • Now fry all the balls in oil on medium flame till it gets golden brown colour.
  • After 10 min sugar syrup will be ready.
  • Directly add the fried balls into the syrup and let it soak it for 30min.
  • Make sure that before adding balls into syrup it should be little warm otherwise the balls will not absorb the sugar syrup completely.
  • After 30- 35 min your gulab jamun are ready to serve.

Try this recipe at home and I bet you ll love it. Do give your comments and suggestions :)
